Okay, so everyone in my company got sent home right after lunch today because of the nasty snowstorm.  We got about three inches of snow in just over the first hour.  Fortunately, I have a dependable car, snow tires, and common sense to guide me home safely... although one can never be too careful because of some idiots on the same road.

On my way home there were few speeders sliding from one side of the road to another.  Then, while plowing snow on my driveway, dozens of vehicles got stuck half way up the hill on my street and one by one backed down.  Some idiots seemed to believe that if they go really fast they can go around those that are stuck, bypass that half foot of snow and plow their way to the top.

Just a minute ago, a semi-truck got stuck and then came down in reverse while holding traffic from both sides of the street.  One tiny car came up fast and furious style and ended up stuck on the opposite side of traffic.  Another driver in a SUV insisted for several minutes, but failed to even go half way up.  Many of my neighbors must be delighted to find their front lawns with deep tire marks after this storm passes.

With that being said, there’s at least a foot (30cm) of snow outside and I’m taking my pack of Huskies out to the neighborhood park for a run!

Be cool and drive safe!
:)

It also amazes me how ridiculous people can be-without thinking carefully, while driving on icy roads and not thinking about other people driving on the road, while they are using precaution, or not even thinking about their own loved ones in the car with them.

Years ago, Big Spring, Texas lost a two year old citizen that's family was going to Lubbock on a snowy day and kept passing her around in the car, WITHOUT putting her a baby seat. A truck hit them head on and the little girl was instantly tossed out of the window. Both of my aunt Rhea and I saw parts of the family's car. While the two year old was in the hospital, she died of a lacerated kidney. =(

We're about 5-1/2 hours away from Cincinnati. Sometimes you just can't get away from unexpected snow storms no matter where you are in the state.

If I didn't already know there wasn't a husky pack around me I'd swear you lived on my street. I live at the top of a hill and every snow storm watch the morons slip and slide up the hill.

The best was four 20somethings got out and decided the driver would gun it and they would push. It worked...sorta till they got stuck again on top of the hill.

Glad you made it home safe.

Where are you? I had to drive through basically the same stuff from Alfred University to Pittsburgh on Friday. So many idiots racing past me ended up in a ditch later and I was half tempted to wave at them as I passed them. But I did make it to pittsburgh safe, if only a few hours later than I was hoping.

We are in OH, northwest of Pittsbrugh, and directly south of Lake Erie. Lake effect storms are rather common but somehow people forget how to drive when it snows. Accidents happened everywhere this past weekend because some drivers were going too fast and/or following too close. At one point in time there was almost zero visibility and many were driving without their headlights on. Simply lack of common sense.

I took my puppy out in the snow and he absoloutly loved it. He keeps sitting at the door whining wanting to go out. Unfortunatly it's only my lunch break and I can't take him out for very long.

I was in a car when there was very bad hail the road was covered with ice. We were driving carefully but there were some idiots who had no concern for the safety of others. We almost hit a Traffic light pole that night. Only just missed it.

We haven't had that much snow in a while now. :D
It's mostly well dealt with.. because of the rate of its falling and now its like wet snow.. argh I hate that. :D I love to hear the cracking sound beneath your feet (that what it's like with the nice snow). The climate's definitely changing..
You see.. our February which was supposed to be minus degrees mostly.. had 20 degrees Celsius most of the time. :wtf:

Anyway.. you're right.. You can be the best driver.. but when you drive along with others.. you never know what's gonna happen.

I'm sure your doggies are enjoying the snow. :aww:

What really upset me are those drivers going around traffic with children in their cars... I really doubt that everyone of them has an emergency and must rush their precious cargo from point A to point B under bad weather conditions. It's totally senseless going an extra few km/hr and risking the chance of accidents.

Sounds like what happens in Austin when we get ice. People think that their SUVs somehow are immune to things that more mundane cars aren't. Then they get stuck half way (or less than half way) up a hill. Curious if there were any people who failed to set their parking brakes that caused amusement? During the ice storms, I sit and watch the news, where you see people park their cars and not set the parking brake so the cars slide down various inclines and smash into other cars. By the way, Texans can't drive in the snow or rain.

That's so true... some SUV, trucks and other AWD car drivers tend to believe they can go faster than rest of the traffic in bad weather conditions. It's definitely a false sense of security. In fact, we saw a semi transporting large rolls of paper flipped on its side and blocking a turnpike ramp about a month ago. Took them almost ten hours to clear the mess and re-open the ramp.

Ha ha! It's the same here in NJ. We don't get that much snow, so instead people are stupid all the time! :)
A kid from my school was on the highway yesterday. He was driving 120 mph and crossed 3 lanes of traffic... right into the divider. He slid all the way off the road, and magically didn't hit anyone but hit a tree on the other side. He isn't hurt to badly, but maybe he'll learn his lesson.

I live kinda in the south, so snow is a rarity for us. They cancel school even for a light dusting (which is rare enough). xD

This one time, they canceled school before it even started snowing (about 11 o'clock). By the time the bus for my neighborhood got to school, it was past 4 o'clock (when we normally get OFF the bus a half-hour away). By that time, there was a decent amount of snow (4-5 inches) on the ground, and my friends and I were a little scared because the bus had already slid a little, so we got off and began walking home. As the bus starts going up one of the more severe hills in our neighborhood, the wheels start going faster and faster, while the bus moves slower and slower, and finally starts sliding backwards. o0; Our driver, luckily, had lived in the north for a while and knew how to drive in snow, so nobody was hurt. xD He ended up giving us a ride the last half-mile to my house, where we had an impromptu party.

But anyways, I agree with the sentiment for a "snow license." Sounds pretty smart.

i love it when people think they can get going faster by stepping on the gas when they're sitting on ice so they spin their tires.

We are all used to this just south of Lake Erie. It happens every winter. There's absolutely nothing surprising about heavy snowfall in this region, yet some people drive as if they have never seen snow in their entire life and without regards for the safety of other drivers on the road.
